Griffin's Story
On Valentine's Day 2025, Kenny and Biss Bates welcomed their beautiful son, Griffin Francis Bates, into the world- a moment they have dreamed of for years. But just two weeks later, at a routine check-up in Worcester their pediatrician noticed something alarming. Acting swiftly, the doctor sent them straight to the hospital.
On March 2nd, Griffin was admitted to UMass Memorial, where tests quickly revealed that his condition was life-threatening. Within hours, he was airlifted to Boston Children's Hospital, where he was placed in the NICU for urgent care. Doctors soon discovered that Griffin was in kidney failure. He will require dialysis and, ultimately, a kidney transplant. His condition is complex, stemming from a malformation of his kidneys, and his road ahead will be long and challenging.
Despite this devastating news, Griffin is in the best possible hands at Boston Children's, receiving world-class care. His parents, Kenny and Biss, are by his side every moment, doing everything they can to support their little warrior.
After years of hoping and waiting for Griff, they are now facing yet another battle - but their love, strength and devotion to Griffin is unwavering.
As they navigate this emotional and financial burden - extended hospital stays, medical treatments, and the long-term care Griffin will need- we are asking for your support. Any contribution will help ease the financial strain so Kenny and Biss can focus entirely on Griffin's fight.
We are beyond grateful to Griffin's pediatrician for catching this early, to the outstanding medical teams caring for him, and to each and every one of you for your kindness, generosity and prayers. Griffin is a fighter, and with the love surrounding him, we know he has a bright future ahead.
